Would an image backup solve this? I have tried from a normal running, a normal running with Avast turned off, from safe mode, and system restore always fails. It works best when attempting to recover from a bad update, a faulty driver, or corrupted file. Replacing your hard dive can be costly. Same happened to me when I was younger. I thought this Dell was dead and I was screwed. It sounds like you have Windows 7 working with a few exceptions, so after you back up your files, a repair installation should do the job for you.Best of Luck Flag
