I beweve they ah, Bwian. When you connect to the Net, do you use a Proxy or go direct? Obviously a fresh install of the OS would also leave BITS working properly. Install SP 3 manually. But that's sorta like piping your error messages to "Dev Null", they're not really gone & solved, you just can't seem'em anymore. I REALLY appreciate your help. I had spent hours trying to get the updates to install on an absolutely clean install of XP Pro from the original discs.

  • I've seen a few computers lately that have had Automatic Updates disabled and would not let me set it to anything other than disabled.
  • How can there be a "standard" fault like this on a perfectly straightforward update - it was SP3 that caused it.
